{News} Scratch Tile Publication

Dear Colonial Korea readers,

For years I’ve been collecting data on scratch tile, a textured architectural tile used on modern building facades, along with my friend and colleague, Jihoon Suk. We are not the first to study this subject, yet we were able to uncover a global history that had barely even been touched on in the past. Along the way, this research turned into a 530-page, photo-focused book project that we are proud to say has finally been completed.

Colonial Korea is and will remain a non-commercial resource, and I typically don’t promote commercial content. However, if you are interested in East Asian modern architecture, brick and tile history, or Frank Lloyd Wright’s legacy outside of the United States, then this is the book for you.

For more information, or to buy the book, please see the URL below:

Scratch Tile: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Material Influence on East Asian Modern Architecture

Research and writing takes a long time. However, I’ll try to have more research essays posted on Colonial Korea in the not-so-distant future. Thanks for your support and readership throughout the years, and here’s to many more!

Cheers,
Nate
